Olivier Messiaen: Chronochromie (1960)

1 comment:

  1. Olivier Messaien was a very influential and unclassifiable composer of the XX century. Among some of his students were Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhaussen, the Italian Luigi Nono, and the Netherlander Tom de Leeuw, as well as many other important composers of that generation. He was a fervent catholic (church organist as well as teacher, just like J.S. Bach), and also a modernist. His music "shows the influence of very diverse composers, such as Debussy, Scriabin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Monteverdi, Josquin, and Perotin." He was also a poet and wrote his own texts for vocal works. In addition, he was an ornithologist, and numerous musical references to birds are found in his music. Gabe Meruelo.
