Glenn Gould-Hindemith-Piano Sonata No.3-Fugue (HD)

1 comment:

  1. Glenn Gould plays Hindemith Piano Sonata no. 3, the Fugue. Gould is best known for his baroque interpretations, Bach principally, but he was actually very much into XX century music as well. When he toured Russia in 1956 he first shocked and charmed the Russian audiences by playing a composer like J.S. Bach in a country where Bach was considered "too churcy" and irrelevant. Having blown that concept to shreds with his virtuosity and personal charm, he then proceeded to tell them about the Second Viennese School (Schoemberg, Berg, Webern, and the 12 tone school- this was actually too much for them, and he had to desist on the idea. Russian newspapers said that "they had been visited by an allien from outer space." The Russian art world fell in love with Gould. This was the first time that a foreign artist, specially one from a capitalist country, had been been received in such manner. Gabe Meruelo.
