Valentina Lisitsa plays the Nocturne in E Flat Major, Opus no. 2, by Frederick Chopin. This Nocturne is the one Chopin composed one night while in the island of Majorca of the coast of Spain. The composer was living there with the French writer George Sand (pseudonym for Amadine Dupin) with whom he was having an intense romantic relationship. On this particular evening she had gone to mainland Spain, and was late in returning during a stormy night. Chopin, worried about her safety, sat at the piano and composed this classic, certainly one of the most popular compositions with both critics and public alike ever since. Gabe Meruelo.
