This recording of Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor is by the Copernicus Chamber Orchestra and directed by Horst Sohm, at the Festival de Musica de L'Escala in Barcelona, Spain, not La Escala in Milan, Italy. Although Albinoni wrote 81 operas he's known today for his instrumental music, of which he wrote many sonatas and 9 symphonies. The fact that not much is known of Albinoni the composer and of a lot of his work (specially all the operas) is due to the fact that all this material was lost during World War II with the destruction of the Dresden State Library. The best known Adagio in music literature, Albinoni's Adagio.
