  1. "The River," by Virgil Thompson. This music was composed for a film. It's quintessentially American music. Virgil Thomson was a composer and a music critic. He, along with Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, and others helped to create the American classical sound. Gabe Meruelo.
