According to Donald Grout, Poulenc "combined the grace and wit of the Parisian popular chansons with a gift for satirical mimicry-of Puccini, Masenet, and Debussy in his opera "Les Mamelles de Tiresias: for example -and natural fluent melody with ingratiating harmonic idiom."
