Francis Poulenc - O Magnum Mysterium

1 comment:

  1. Francis Poulenc's O Magnum Misterium. Poulenc was a member of Les Six (the Six), a group of post-impressionist French composers who, like Eric Satie were critical of Debussy and the impressionists' tenets. Their music was lighter, anti-romantic, even sarcastic at times, and used humor, even vulgarity on occasion. Nonetheless they were also quite capable of composing very beautiful music. Among "Les Six" were Auric, Honneger, Milhaud, and Germaine Taillefere, the only woman in the group. Poulenc was gay but deeply religious (catholic). Gabe Meruelo.
