  1. Jean Sibelius Symphony no. 2, Opus 43, Leonard Bernstein and the Wiener Philarmonique. Sibelius's gift of melody and orchestration was phenomenal. It was his Violin Concerto that got me into classical music in a serious manner when I was in college. I listened to it played by Zino Francescatti, and it was love at first sight with classical music. It didn't hurt that my parents had played classical records for my brother and myself when we were children; I specially liked Debussy's La Plus Que Lente then, but I didn't return to classical music till I was in college and felt a strong awakening for knowledge and the arts. The Adagio di Molto of that violin concerto is one of the most sublime compositions in all of music. Gabe Meruelo.
