FineartspageGMer.com: Alleluia - Buxtehude
The Alleluia by Dietrich Buxtehude, one of Bach's role models. Once Bach took a leave of absence from his job and traveled on foot to another city where Buxtehude was giving public performances; he stayed there past his leave because he could not get himself to stop listening and learning from the master organist. According to the notes from Deutsche Gramophone that came with a collection of recordings of Bach music, at one point he had run out of money and didn't even have money for food, much less to return home. He was standing in a corner and someone threw a fish at him from a balcony. Not only did the fish hit him; he now had something to eat; furthermore the fish contained a gold coin inside his mouth. This met all of Bach's needs and he returned home to his job which had been kept for him, even though he had disobeyed his employer. Gabe Meruelo.
